Shiftwork

Workload

Shift work affects people differently. It is unnatural for our bodies to work at night and sleep during the day.

Our experts at the Pipeline Performance Group will help your crew overcome shift obstacles while striving to maintain a safe working environment.   We will:

  • Assess the current situation with your Pipeline Operations Crew and determine exactly how much fatigue your team is experiencing

  • Make specific recommendations to correct the problems along with a step-by–step implementation guide

  • Work with you to establish shift lengths and schedule rotations to protect against the onset of fatigue

  • Educate controllers on how to decrease fatigue in the work place

  • Recommend a formal process for recording critical information and for exchanging information during shift turn-over

Working on a schedule that changes constantly presents serious challenges to getting adequate rest. In fact, 80% of shift workers who work the night shift report suffering from sleep disturbances.  A good rule to follow is anyone getting less than 5 hours of sleep will experience a negative effect on performance.

Aging populations are less able to deal with the physical demands of the night shift and the younger crew find the social sacrifices to be very distracting. But the necessity of the 3rd shift drives the workers to have to adjust to just that schedule.
